We enter Bolivia on land. The border crossing is fast and without any delay. La Paz city sits in a bowl surrounded by the high mountains of the altiplano (pic. 1). As it grew, the city of La Paz climbed the hills, resulting in varying elevations from 3,200 to 4,100 m. Our hotel is very close to the bus station and we pay the taxi driver way too much for the short drive. As there aren't any 'must sees and dos' for us in the city, we flee to the countryside again. Die Busfahrt nach La Paz entlang des Titicacasees ist sehr schön und der Grenzübergang ist problemlos und geht zügig vonstatten; wir sind positiv überrascht. La Paz liegt auf 3600 müM und ist der höchstgelegene Regierungssitz - aber nicht Hauptstadt - der Erde. La Paz gefällt uns gar nicht; vielleicht auch, weil wir nicht viel Gutes darüber gelesen haben. Daher verbringen wir den einzigen Tag in La Paz auf dem Lande (Altiplano) und besuchen die Geburtsstätte der Andenhochkulturen,...
